• Keep all of your software up to date. This includes your Operating System as well as Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, Oracle Java, and other titles you use.
  
  
• Backup your data.  Have a plan and backup in place to prevent data loss in the event of hardware failure or virus infection.
  
  
• If you did not go looking for it, do not install it.  If a web page tells you to install something, don't.
  
  
• If you don't use it, uninstall it.  Software that is not used is software that is potentially out of date and a liability.
  
  
• For Apple OS X computers, Do Not Install MacKeeper or 911Bundle.  Just don’t do it.
  
  
• Do not accept unsolicited telephone calls from anyone wanting to access your computer remotely.
